Dear New AES Parents and Students,
Firstly, let us welcome you to our AES community. We have a strong history of providing a community that is welcoming and inclusive to students and their families. AES is often the center of parents’ New Delhi community as our school seems to always have activities for families. We recognize that having your child/children adjust comfortably is often the foundation of a successful transition for the family. Whether you are moving to Delhi for the first time, or changing schools but not location, we work to make this transition as welcoming and smooth as possible.
At AES we offer many elective courses in the areas of Music, World Language, Arts, and other subjects that support the development of our students. Here is the MS Elective Form (Please complete and submit this form as soon as possible). Also, please know that :
– Not all requests can be met, but we do our best to ensure that students are placed in elective offerings that interest them.
– If there is previous academic experience that your son or daughter has had in a language selection or music selection that might not be expressed in their admissions file, you are asked to share that information with the school counselors.
– Due to scheduling conflicts we cannot guarantee that requests will be honored, but they do give us a good idea of what types of elective.
iPad Online Agreement – Please review our Middle School Responsible Use Policy with your child. Our iPad online agreement will need to be signed electronically prior to your child being issued their iPad. The online agreement covers the Middle School handbook, some Frequently Asked iPad Questions and the Responsible Use Policy. We have also added the Family Media Agreement from Common Sense Media. We highly recommend making an agreement with your child about iPad use and managing the device at home. We are also happy to partner with you to support you and your child as you create your guidelines and make your agreements. We will schedule for you a tech orientation meeting with Ms. Cullen, our MS Technology Coordinator.
AES purchases the iPad and a multitude of apps for your child which will be provided to each student by the school. Based on three years of experience with our iPad program, we have a staggered and developmental approach to unrolling individual privileges. The school guidelines are:
- Grade 6: No personal apps
- Grade 7: No personal apps
- Grade 8: 10 personal apps
*For 6th and 7th grade, no personal apps also includes downloading them on to the school device outside of school and deleting them before arriving at school.
**For 8th graders, some personal apps do not support our school mission and values. If we find such an app, we will inform parents and ask that the app be removed from the school device (examples include: Kik, 9gag, ask.fm)
We do offer the opportunity for parents to insure the iPad. The cost of the insurance is $50 USD per child towards insurance program. Our program does not include loss or theft. Please see here for more detailed information about our highly recommended optional insurance program.
